TNR Program

 The Humane Society of Caroline County has a Trap-Neuter-Return program for feral cats in the county.

There are a lot of feral cat colonies in the county, and we do our best to TNR them. Feral cat colonies are the direct result of irresponsible pet ownership. Unfortunately, these cats are thrown out by people and have had to learn how to survive, and then they multiply. One female cat can have multiple litters of kittens in one year.

TNR means the cats are trapped, neutered, and released right back where they came from. This way, they can live out their lives, and colonies will naturally decrease. The HSCC can help you with feral cats, but we will not remove them.

The HSCC has 2 volunteers, Kathy Fisher and Rick Frazier, who TNR feral cats in the county. In the past year, these 2 have TNR'ed 130 cats. Kathy is looking for help with transporting trapped cats to and from low-cost veterinary clinics and holding them in a safe place for 24 hours before returning them. It takes 24 hours for the anesthesia to wear off.

The appointments for spay/neuter are not free; the HSCC pays for them. If you would like to help, contact us at hscc.adoptions@gmail.com. Keep in mind that there are only 2 people doing this work, so it may take a while to get you on the schedule.
